What Marco, Coffee Roaster at Cafés Lugat, Has to Say:

avis torrÃ?Æ?Ã?©facteur

Marco loves :

Why is This Coffee a Grand Cru?

  • A fresh and tangy cup with flavours reminiscent of rhubarb jam.
  • A blend of typical Kenyan varieties that give this coffee its gourmet notes.
A double-washed process that improves the aromatic clarity and gives the cup a tangy character.
  • A socially and environmentally committed cooperative with plans for access to education and water waste recycling.

About the Farm:

The Kiandu Coffee Factory is located in Nyeri County in the heart of Kenya. Established in 1970, it has now more than 1500 farmers who are regularly trained in coffee growing through seminars and courses on responsible farming practices. Due to the high altitude, volcanic soils and excellent climatic conditions, the coffee beans produced in this region develop a rich and complex aromatic palette. This is also due to the process used on the coffee cherries. They are carefully selected and hand-picked in order to keep best of them. The farmers then pulp them, ferment them for a day and finally leave them to dry for over a week on African beds.

About the Farmer:

This coffee is not the work of a single producer. More than 1,500 people work for the cooperative, each of whom grows about 200 coffee trees. In order to reconcile agriculture with a responsible commitment, the factory is equipped with wastewater collection pits far from the water source. On another note, the cooperative has implemented a way to finance its members' school fees and emergency needs.
