Neapolitain chocolate is a small chocolate in foil , originally square-shaped, that accompanies an espresso. Contrary to what its name suggests, this little chocolate is not from Naples, but from Saint-Étienne, France. In fact, Neapolitain chocolate is French! It was in 1912 that Eugène Weiss, the creator of the namesake chocolate factory in Saint-Étienne, invented a small travel chocolate that he wrapped to prevent it from melting: the Neapolitain. This specialty, devoid of any artifice, encapsulates the chocolate maker’s skill in a single bite.
100 years after the creation of Neapolitain chocolate by Master Chocolatier Weiss , the original brand offers eleven different varieties of Neapolitain chocolates and is considered one of the flagship products of the brand, according to Weiss Chocolates CEO Yannick Naël.
Originally weighing 7g, Neapolitain chocolate has lightened and can now range from 4.5g to 7g. It comes in many forms and from various brands! For example, you can find tasting boxes with dark chocolates, milk chocolates with natural flavors of vanilla, caramel, or even orange peel or pieces of nuts. Often made of dark chocolate, Neapolitain chocolates can also be made of milk chocolate or even filled! You can find some filled with speculoos or even spiced fillings.
In short: this small square of chocolate can be enjoyed at a local café, a restaurant, a tea room, at home, or with friends… It beautifully concludes a coffee break with a little hint of cocoa butter in your mouth.
