About this Coffee:

The plantation is situated in the commune of Buenos Aires, in the Dipilto mountains, in an area near the Honduras border known for its specialty coffee. The farm benefits from a micro-climate that is ideal for growing specialty coffee.
It is cultivated on sandy soil at an altitude of between 1,200 and 1,700 metres. Most coffee bushes are grown under shade (70% with various species), and the soil and plants are fertilised using environmentally-friendly techniques.

Why is this Coffee a Grand Cru?

  • An exotic cup with fresh notes of coconut milk and lime et de citron vert as well as gourmet notes of praline and cinnamon for a sweet and rounded espresso
  • the Marsellesa variety is a new variaty of coffee that was bred to be more resistant to climat change while retaining a delicate acidity and a high aromatic quality
  • This coffee is cultivated in the shade in order to allow a slower ripening of the cherries, giving the cup more complexity and sweetness

The Valladarez Family:

Luis Emilio Valladarez has been working in the coffee industry for 60 years. He started out by buying a small farm called Buenos Aires, followed by two other farms named La Laguna and El Suyatal. At the time he sold all his production as cherries.

A few years ago, the producer decided to build his own mill, Cafetalera Buenos Aires, in order to more effectively control coffee production and export. Today he works with his son Olman at two plantations: Buenos Aires Estate and La Laguna. This family set-up began in 2004, when Olman started to help his father and brother manage and run the family’s farms.

Since 2005, these enthusiastic producers have been working hard to make a name for themselves in the world of specialty coffee. They have even participated on several occasions in Nicaragua’s Cup of Excellence competition. And in 2014 they came second with their El Naranjo Dipilto (Maracaturra) lot!
