specialty coffee beans lugat guatemala

Coffee, its terroir, and its flavor profile

Discover the Guatemala Huehuetenango whole bean coffee from Lugat, a 100% pure origin Arabica coffee, carefully roasted in France. Derived from the Caturra and Bourbon varieties, it is grown between 1,400 and 1,850 meters in altitude by a collective of producers from Todos Santos, in the heart of one of Guatemala’s emblematic coffee regions.

In the west of the country, Huehuetenango benefits from a unique terroir, on the foothills of the Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes. Warm, dry winds from the Tehuantepec plain meet the cool mountain air, creating a microclimate favorable to high-altitude coffee cultivation.

In the cup, this coffee reveals a gentle attack with notes of dark chocolate, followed by a round body with aromas of candied orange. The tasting continues with a soft finish evoking hazelnut, for a rich and balanced profile.

Collective of coffee producers from Todos Santos in Huehuetenango, Guatemala

A coffee supported by the Todos Santos producers' collective

In Todos Santos, coffee is crafted by many hands. The story of the collective dates back to 1995, when ten producers decided to come together to create ASODIETT. Since then, families have been cultivating their coffee on small farms scattered around Todos Santos and Tuiboch, on the slopes of the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes.

Their expertise doesn’t stop at the harvest. Close to the plots, the producers themselves carry out the initial processing steps, before drying the coffee while still encased in its parchment on small patios or on the roofs of houses. In the mountains of Huehuetenango, where rain can persist throughout the harvest season, this step requires constant attention.

Once dried, the coffee leaves the heights of Todos Santos to reach Antigua, where its final preparation takes place. This journey reflects a collective effort, from the cherries picked in the mountains to the coffee’s final preparation.
