Why is this coffee a Grand Cru ?

  • A complex cup with exotic notes of anan and mango
  • A coffee produced at high altitude which gives the cup its aroma by slowing down the maturation of the cherries
  • A natural process that reinforces the sweetness and gives this coffee notes of vanilla

About the farm:

Don Chalo owns a farm in the mountains of the Volcan Baru region, in the Jurutungo valley. He grows geisha and caturra at an altitude of 1800 meters on 10 hectares. His land is much larger and is also used for high altitude grazing. Don Chalo's land has a Swiss mountain feel, the air is fresh, a charming wooden chalet built in the middle of a clearing is surrounded by cows left to graze. The surroundings are wooded and the coffee trees grow under the shade. The coffees are then prepared in the Baru Black Mountain factory.

 

About the farmer:

 

Gonzalo Batista, also called Don Chalo, produces coffee with his wife. They have 2 children and own their farm. Surrounded by mountains belonging to the National Park of La Amistad, the finca is located at 1850 meters above sea level. With the cool climate of the highlands, Don Chalo had always believed that coffee growing was not suitable for his land, but one day, while walking through his plantation, he discovered coffee plants in full bloom. So he planted coffee, starting with caturra and then geisha. The results in cups encouraged him to continue this culture.
