The flavour profile of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee beans
Produced in Ethiopia's renowned Yirgacheffe region, these Lugat coffee beans are crafted from carefully selected Heirloom varieties and processed using the traditional washed method. This combination of exceptional growing conditions and expert processing results in a specialty coffee with outstanding clarity, sweetness and finesse.
Rated 84/100, this coffee delights with a lively, fruit-forward profile balanced by indulgent sweetness. Bright notes of candied orange and grapefruit lead the tasting experience, before giving way to a smooth, rounded mouthfeel with subtle flavours of milk chocolate.
A vibrant acidity enhances the cup, adding freshness without overpowering its natural balance. The finish is elegant and lingering, revealing delicate floral nuances reminiscent of white blossoms. Whether brewed as an espresso or with a filter method, this coffee expresses the distinctive character of Yirgacheffe through its unique terroir, heirloom cultivars and carefully executed washed processing.
Yirgacheffe Gedeb: an exceptional terroir brought to life by SNAP
This single-origin coffee comes from the Gedeb district in the heart of Ethiopia's renowned Yirgacheffe region, an area celebrated for producing some of the country's finest coffees. Grown at an altitude of 2,150 metres, the coffee benefits from a lush agroforestry environment where the cherries ripen slowly, allowing them to develop exceptional aromatic complexity.
Produced from traditional Heirloom varieties, native to the birthplace of Arabica coffee, this specialty coffee reflects the remarkable genetic diversity that makes Ethiopian coffees so distinctive. In Gedeb, the exporter SNAP works alongside around 1,000 local coffee growers, providing support throughout harvesting and processing. This close partnership helps maintain outstanding bean quality while promoting the expertise and craftsmanship of the farming communities.

A traditional washed process that brings out the coffee's finest qualities
Harvesting begins only once the coffee cherries have reached peak ripeness, with every cherry hand-selected to ensure only the finest fruit is processed. Shortly after picking, the cherries are depulped and left to ferment for around 36 hours. They are then carefully washed to remove the remaining mucilage, preserving the coffee's clean and expressive flavour profile.
The parchment-covered beans are transferred to raised African drying beds, where they dry naturally over a period of 12 to 15 days. Throughout this stage, they are turned frequently to encourage consistent drying and protected from both excessive sunlight and overnight moisture. Once drying is complete, the beans are hulled, packaged and made ready for shipment.
