The iconic Comandante® C40 manual coffee grinder
is a robust, high performance grinder with an advanced and pioneering
burrset: Nitro Blade®. And the new MK4 generation just got even better!
Thanks
to some smart material science, reworked internals and an unbreakable
polymer-glass Bean Jar, the Comandante® C40 Mk4 offers improved
workflow, weight, and durability.
Comandante refined the geometry
and structure of the Nitro Blade burr to get the grind performance they
were looking for and the particle distribution which worked best with
brewing fresh ground specialty arabica beans!
Manufacturing a
Nitro Blade is a serious engineering task which requires special tools
and machinery, excellent craftsmanship and lots of experience.
High-nitrogen martensitic steel is extremely difficult to work with. But
when finished, it is tough, highly wear resistant and has a high degree
of edge retention. This is what we want!
High-Precision Tool & Clear Design
The burr material and design is the proud result of years of dedicated research and development at Comandante®’s onsite coffee lab. Nitro Blade® is unique, using a high-alloyed, high-nitrogen stainless steel with a fine martensitic micro-crystal matrix. Burr Geometry has been optimised to achieve excellent Bean Thruput with a reduced Crank Torque and at the same time deliver a refined Particle Size Distribution for best brewing results.
Comandante loves natural wood. The solid oak handles, produced by friends in Germany’s Black Forest, are both wonderfully ergonomic and beautiful to look at thanks to oak’s unique grain structure. Gives a comfortable feel when grinding!
The Classic and Special Coating models use a robust and sleek powder coating – baked on at high temperature, not just painted on.
Settings & Other Characteristics
Comandante®’s click system gives you complete control for any brewing method and locks your preferred grind setting into place, helping you get the very best out of your roasted coffee and repeat the results again and again.
Every C40 MK4 comes with one brown glass Bean Jar and one clear polymer-glass Bean Jar. Both are super easy to clean and hold around 40g of roasted coffee beans.
All plastic parts are made of Tritan BPA-free plastic.

The type of roast will affect the balance of flavours (bitterness, acidity, sweetness, etc.) and reveal the aromas of the terroir to a greater or lesser extent.
The more the coffee is roasted the more its colour will change (from light to dark). The darker the roast, the more the aromatic notes are lost in favour of the roasting notes.
All our coffees have been placed in a colorimeter by our experts in order to compare the roast intensity.
The aromatic groups describe the tasting notes of your cup (hazelnut, chocolate, peach, white flowers, etc.).
If you don't know what your coffee profile is yet, we advise you to start with the most appreciated aromatic groups: rich & sweet or woody.
Please Note: this is not a flavoured coffee but aromatic notes noticed upon tasting.
The dominant aromatic group represents the most perceptible notes and the secondary group, the more subtle notes present in the cup.
Traditional Coffees (classic and superior) are the most common in the various distribution channels.
Specialty Coffees (rated 80-100) are among the best coffees in the world and represent less than 10% of world production. These are flawless coffees that offer unique tasting notes from one terroir (or even plot) to another.
Attributed by “Q Graders”, a coffee's /100 score is determined by the quality of the beans and the result in the cup. It is advisable to progressively move towards coffees with higher scores.
