About this Panettone Recipe

This delicious traditional panettone from Italian brand Vergani is light and delicious. This traditional Christmas cake releases extraordinary aromas of sultanas and candied oranges on the palate. It's the perfect cake for the whole festive season, to enjoy alone or with the family, in the morning at breakfast, or in the evening with coffee.

This panettone comes in an attractive rigid cardboard box that will look great on your kitchen or dining room table.

Ingredients: wheat flour, sultanas (18%), fresh egg, sugar, butter, candied orange peel (4%) (orange peel, fructose-glucose syrup, sugar), fresh pasteurised whole milk, natural yeast (wheat flour - water), emulsifiers: mono and diglycerides of fatty acids (vegetable origin), fructose, salt, natural flavourings. May contain traces of nuts, soya and mustard.

The Origins of This Christmas Cake

According to the most famous legend in Italy, panettone is the result of a love story. In 1490, a young aristocrat called Toni fell madly in love with the daughter of a Milanese pastry chef.
To win her hand and obtain her father's blessing, he posed as a pastry chef's apprentice and invented a bread sweetened with honey and decorated with dried fruit in the shape of a dome. The delicacy of this "Pan de Toni", which later became the "panettone", won him immediate success with the pastry shop's clientele, and with the young girl he was courting.

And so it was that Panettone became the traditional cake of the people of Lombardy (Milan) and Piedmont (Turin). Maxicoffee has a whole host of other tasty panettones for you!
