What Marco, roaster at Cafés Lugat, thinks:

Marco likes it because:

This pure origin coffee offers a tangy attack, with notes of citrus and pineapple. Expect a smooth and syrupy body, with spicy nuances, reminiscent of tonka bean. You will enjoy a cup of great sweetness, combining fruity notes with the more gourmet notes of cane sugar.

The farm:

This coffee comes from the association ASCAFE, located in the south of Colombia. It gathers 3700 producing families in different departments: Cauca, Valle del Cauca, Nariño, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Tolima and Huila.

The farmer:

The objective of the ASCAFE association is to consolidate the links between the farmers through the sharing of good agricultural practices and that together they achieve a better economic independence.

Their horizon in 2025 is to change the agricultural model, too productivist in the South of Colombia, for a more sustainable model and respectful of their lands, by fighting also against the illicit plantations of coca.

How can we do this? To increase the quality of the coffees produced, to better remunerate the producers, to strengthen their partnerships with customers with strong social values, to promote rural associations, to give more transparency Producer-Roaster, to make emerge social projects which boosts the local economy, to sensitize the farmers so that they analyze more their green beans at the origin and that they preserve the traceability of their productions.

Choosing the Chevere-Sugar Cane means supporting four social programs set up by the ASCAFE Cooperative:

SPIRIT OF PEACE: A coffee produced by former FARC guerrillas who have repented and are in the peace process.
WOMEN: A café to improve the daily life of women affected by violence and living in poor social conditions in the region of Cauca.
CABILDO: A coffee produced by indigenous communities in the eastern region of the department of Cauca.
INTERGENERATIONAL: An academic training that makes it possible to talk about coffee growing in school to encourage the younger generation to start or take over the family plantations.
