120 years already

Lavazza is a brand that gained experience over the years and is especially dedicated to its customers in order to meet their needs and lifestyle! Its founder, Luigi Lavazza was a real pioneer, inventing the very concept of the Blend. More precisely, this concept gave way to the art of blending different coffee origins in order to obtain a harmonious product with a distinctive taste.

Often a symbol of the Italian espresso and of the Italian lifestyle throughout the world, Lavazza is today the coffee world’s leader. If, like me, you’ve travelled around the world, you are not surprised anymore to find Lavazza in several cafes and restaurants in many different countries  ;)

The Alternative: Lavazza’s Compostable Capsules

Lavazza understood ecological and environment impacts in launching their new range of Nespresso-compatible capsules 100 % compostable. The Eco Caps are in compliance with the international norm EN 13432 and are certified by TÜV Austria, which garantee that these capsules are suitable for composting.

It is not the first time that the brand opts for biodegradable / compostable products. Indeed, in 2005 Lavazza offered biodegradable coffee pods for its A modo Mio machines.

Aluminium Capsules

For or against it? That’s definitely a subject to explore more thoroughly, most likely in my next articles ;)

When environmental awareness becomes more and more universal, coffee capsules tend to suffer from bad publicity due to the waste they caused and still produce. Let’s be honest, we’ve all tried aluminium capsules at some point without really thinking about ways to dispose them.

At MaxiCoffee, we understand the appeal for aluminium capsules to preserve coffee’s aromas.

That’s why, we encourage our customers to take the time to find ways to recycle them before buying them, using them and throwing them into the trash. :(

Or we recommend you Lavazza Eco Caps that are 100% compostable!

Are Lavazza Eco Caps really 100% compostable?

Lavazza has just teamed up with TerraCycle, a global leader in collecting and repurposing hard-to-recycle waste. Lavazza can therefore guarantee capsules made of biopolymer. Contrary to plastic, biopolymers are polymers produced from living organisms which allows the material to fully decompose.

The Eco Caps will :

  • decompose within 180 days
  • decompose in “biological waste”

It is much simpler for customers than to find a collect point to have their Nespresso pods recycled.
